World of Good Box-1

My husband and I had our 31st wedding anniversary on July 29th. We decided to celebrate over the weekend since we had family visiting during the week.  Since Roger is a photojournalist in the military and writes stories to go with his photos and videos, I thought it fitting to buy him a boxed pen.  I wanted to wrap it in a nice way and thought with all his travels the World of Good DSP would be perfect. Then I saw the pen quill and ink well and the beautiful sentiment and just had to get creating with it!

Me and the Big Lug 31 years ago. It was 96 degrees at 11 in the morning at Bee Tree Park by the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri.

Oops I got distracted there for a second going down memory lane. Keep going for instructions for the box. Haha!

For this project I used products from the World of Good Suite. I had to come up with my own measurements to fit the size of the box. To fit the pen box for measurements for the box, I measured the width, length and depth of the box and here is the formula for how I got my box to fit perfectly.

World of Good Box-2

To determine how wide my paper should be, I measured the width and depth of the box and added extra space to make sure it covered the sides and I had enough wiggle room. I will place the formula below. For the length of the box I measured the length and depth of the box and did the same with adding extra space. It’s important that you count your depth twice. The depth of the box is ¾” and I wanted to have a side come up on the side of the box so I added ¼” for each side. The width of the box is 3” but I wanted to have enough space to be able to slip the pen box down into it without having to cram it but I didn’t want it to “swim” around in the box so I added 1/8”. I did the same “ciphering” when I calculated for the length.

Width: (¾” D + ¼”) + (3” W + 1/8”) + (¾” D + ¼”)

Length: (3/4” D + ¼”) + (7 ¼”W + 1/8”) + ¾” D + ¼”)

To figure out where to score, I just added the ¾” + ¼” depth all around which equals 1” so I knew I needed to score on all four sides at 1”. It turned out perfectly!

For the top of the box, I measured the length of the box and made sure the paper would wrap around the box. I wrapped it around the box and pinched and creased the paper around the corners then placed tear and tape on the back to seal it shut.

I love the decorations for this box. It is perfect for a masculine gift – perfect for any gift really! I hope you make a box of your own and would love to see or hear about it!
