Celebrate Sunflowers Full Photo-1

I absolutely love Sunflowers and behind Stargazer Lillies they’re my second favorite! When I first made this card, I wanted it to be a double flap card with the flap on top opening from the right and the flap on the bottom opening from the left. The problem was with this big beautiful sunflower it wouldn’t open. Back to the drawing board to make this beautiful Half Door Fun Fold. Here’s how I made it!

Celebrate Sunflowers-Trimmer

I cut my Misty Moonlight Cardstock at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 4 1/4″. Then I placed my card base back on the trimmer at the 5 1/2″ side placing it at the halfway mark (2 3/4″) then used my trimmer blade to cut to the center scoring line. At this point I turned it to the 8 1/2″ side, placing it at the score line and cut it from the top down to the 2 3/4″ mark. If I’m being honest, it really is easier if you do the cutting then the scoring. It will cut a lot cleaner.

At this point I adhered the 2 ½” x 3 ¾” piece of In Good Taste DSP to the top of the 4” x 5 ¼” Whisper White cardstock then glued this to the inside of my card base.

Next I glued the smaller piece of DSP which measures  2 ¼” x 3 ¾” DSP to the 2 ½” x 4”  piece of Whisper White cardstock then glued this piece to the bottom front of the card.

Next I die cut all the parts and pieces. For the outer portion of the center of the Sunflower I used Soft Suede Cardstock. I cut a small rectangle and placed it over the center then die cut it. I then trimmed all the extra bits off. I found this to be the best way to achieve the look I desired.

Celebrate Sunflowers Bits and Pieces

I used Daffodil Delight for the flower base, Bumble Bee for the petal design of the flowers, Soft Suede for the center, Early Espresso for the “nose” of the flower, Garden Green for the wispy leaves and for the outline of the flower and Old Olive for the flower bases. I love all these colors together!

After I got everything cut out, I glued them together places glue on the largest portions of the Bumble Bee flower petals on the center, on the center of the Soft Suede flower and on the largest areas of the leaf outlines. Be careful not to use too much glue. You don’t want it to goosh out! I now have the Adhesive Sheets and will use them the next time I create this card. After I put all the pieces together I placed dimensional on the back of the Daffodil Delight flower base and on the back of the leaves. I arranged them on the “door” of the card making sure I only placed dimensionals on the bottom half of the Sunflower. You don’t want the dimensionals to show when you open the card.

I then stamped my sentiment using Misty Moonlight Ink on a 1″ piece of Whisper White then punched it out using my Lovely Labels Pick a Punch. I then tied a bow using the Ruched Daffodil Delight ribbon and placed on the tag using a glue dot. I cut the label at about 2 1/2″ from the tip of the fancy tip to the end. I placed dimensionals on the back of this then adhered it to the top of the card.

I absolutely love how this card turned out! From the front it looks like a full front card but has the surprise of being a Half Door!
